Shipwrecked Because of Pride

Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

A very dangerous place for us to be is when we begin to think, “I got it covered; I know what I’m doing here; I’ll take care of it.” Proverbs 16:18 says, “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” If we’re going to fall, if we’re going to make bad decisions in business, if we’re going to sign contracts that are not pleasing to God, then we’re going to get into relationships that are not going to give us happiness in our lives. It is because of our pride, our lack of patience when we want this or we want that, that we are not slowing down, patiently waiting on God. The reality is that there are many that have been shipwrecked because they were moving forward by their own efforts rather than waiting on God. They think that they do not need any help within the ministry that they are called to do. They think they can solve their own marriage problems and do not need to seek any type of counseling, either from a pastor that the Lord has directed along their path, or even from God Himself, thereby sometimes resulting in divorce. The sad reality is that many have been shipwrecked. It is a possibility for every one of us if we allow pride to take over our lives.
