For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
One of the first things that Satan desires to do in our lives is to get us out of God’s Word. If he can get us to stay away from reading and learning God’s Word, then we are going to be making bad decisions. There will be times when we are going to feel empty and experience defeat that will keep us from wanting to get into the Word. That is how the enemy comes after us. He will try and make us think that the Word is ineffective and a waste of time. The moment he is able to take away from us the instrument, the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God, then he has removed the only weapon that you and I have. We are now open prey to the enemy and we are going to question the goodness of God. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” Ephesians 6:12. But we are to take the sword, and we are to dig into our own hearts, and pull the darkness out, and apply the Word and the promises of God to our own lives. “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” Ephesians 6:17. Oftentimes, we don’t do that. God’s Word declares that we are able to overcome. “ For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith” 1 John 5:4. So how do we get that faith? “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” Romans 10:17. Take up the sword of the Spirit today and apply the Word of God to your heart.
