In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
When we come to Christ, when we are serving the Lord Jesus Christ, we inherited all that He has. “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:23–24) And so we have become extremely wealthy. Another way to look at it is that we have obtained His inheritance. Because of the Father sending the Son to die for me—when He died, we also died. It doesn’t seem like a very fair deal—we received everything with Christ and He only has us. But isn’t that really what it’s all about? Satan tells us that we have no value and that we do not make a difference. God says that we are very significant. Jesus said, “I came to die for you.” At one moment, we receive all that God has, but at the same time, Jesus received all that we are. And Jesus says, “I have blessed you by giving to you my inheritance, but, you have blessed me simply by coming.” Today, let’s meditate on all that God has done for us. What a wonderful God we serve.
